Things That Inhibit Lucid Dreaming

On this page we will try to make you aware of things that will actually make you less likely to have lucid dreams.

Not Getting Enough Sleep
People need different amounts of sleep, but generally around 8 hours is recommended. If you are short on sleep you will miss out on the long REM cycles in the morning where it is the most common to have your lucid dreams. This one is easy to fix, just go to bed earlier :)

Not Following The Routine
Lucid dreaming, just like having a healthy diet and exercise regime, is something you need to adopt as part if your lifestyle rather than sporadically making half hearted attempts. Keep updating your dream journal, doing your reality checks and thinking about lucid dreaming to to succeed.

Wanting It Too Much
Don't become anxious about not being able to have a lucid dream! It is essential that you relax. Think of it this way; you can't force yourself to have a lucid dream, you need to allow yourself to have one. When you first enter a lucid dream, you may find that you get excited and keep waking up as soon as you realise that you are dreaming. Don't worry about this, we all suffer from the same problem now and again. The answer is again to relax rather than get excited!

Drugs
You need to have an aware mind to achieve lucid dreaming. You are unlikely to have a lucid dream while using cannabis. Alcohol can cause your problems. Some say that caffeine will also reduce your chances. Various prescription drugs may also cause you problems. Edit this article to add specific drugs that you know have stopped your lucid dreams.
