Suggested Lucid Dream Reality Checks
Here are some tests to help you prove whether you are experiencing a dream or reality (feel free to add your own):
- Look at your hands. In a dream your hands may have too many or too few fingers or may look strange.
- Test gravity. Throw an object in the air and catch it again. In a dream the object may move slowly, hover for a while or do other unusual things.
- Read some text from a book, poster, road sign, anything else. Remember the text and look away. Now look back and read the text again. In a dream the text will not remain consistent.
- Think about the sequence of events that led you here. In a dream there will be gaps and inconsistencies.
- Hold your hand over your nostrils and mouth for a moment. In a dream you will still be able to breath.
- Switch the lights off and on a few times. In a dream the lights may not react to the switch as you would expect.
- Without effort, try to push your finger through the palm of your hand, or an object. In a dream it may pass though unhindered.
- Look at the hands on an analogue clock. In a dream they will move in unexpected ways.
- Look at yourself in a mirror for a few moments. In a dream your image may not appear as expected or may not mirror your movements.
- Jump and try to levitate.
- Eat and/or drink something. It may have an unexpected taste, or no taste at all!
- Point at something and try to summon it to your hand (telekenisis)
- Go on the computer and go to a website you visit often. Click on a link you never have before. Your mind can't possibly know what to display. Or the computer might act weird in general.
- Listen to a familiar song in your MP3 player. Does it sound weird? Or do you suddenly realize you don't own an MP3 player at all? Is it a song you never heard before? Does it function strangely?
- Close your eyes and imagine yourself as an animal. Now open them and look at your hands. Do you see claws? Fur? Wings? Flippers?
- Just ask yourself "am i dreaming?" and look around. If your dreaming you'll know.
- Draw a symbol on your hand. Look at it throughout the day. In your dream, it will appear strange, not be there, or you may notice something odd about your hands.
- Try to walk through a painting, mirror, or wall. If your awake and you already know it just don't do this in public.
- If its day, close your eyes and imagine that its nighttime. Try really hard. Open them and look up at the sky. Or if its night do the same just imagine that its day.
