Step 1: Lucid Dream Awareness

To experience lucid dreams you need to increase you awareness of the world around you and know whether you are experiencing reality or a dream. That sounds easy, but your mind isn't conditioned to question it's reality while you sleep. You may be flying through space or living in the wild west without it even crossing your mind that this is quite an unusual activity for 10:30am on a Tuesday.

The goal of dream initiated lucid dreams is to realise that you are in a dream. The whole of this tutorial is all about making that more likely, but the first step is very important and is also the easiest; you need to keep the topic of lucid dreaming active in your mind. You already know that your daily experiences manifest themselves in your dreams; from the film you watched, to a conversation you had, to the deadline you are working towards. Whatever occupies your mind in the day also returns in your dreams. To increase your chance of thinking about lucid dreams while you sleep (and therefore questioning your reality) I recommend that you read about it, chat about it with friends and generally make it part of every day.
